Applause and plaudits to Circuit Court Clerk Aurelia Pucinski for putting the best interests of the people above politics.

But shame on some Cook County GOP operatives for their backbiting and sniping at Pucinski for simply being -- as she put it -- "a responsible public servant" who wants only the best for her constituents.

Pucinski has been briefing Clerk candidate and probable winner in November Dorothy Brown, a Democrat, on the ins and outs and perplexities of the job.
